Simion Mehedinţi – an Outstanding Professor and Romanian

Summary/Abstract: Simion Mehedinţi (1868–1962) is part of the creators of knowledge disciplines in their modern form reached following the fulfilment and development of political ideal to gain the national unity. His professional activity lasts over the years owed to his particular achievements. He is creator and father of Romanian geography, real professor for professors by his remark able contribution in the education of teenagers in the spirit of national values, traditions and culture. Simion Mehedinţi was also known by other manifestations and preoccupations offering the statuses of academician, politician and statesman. In the Romanian culture, his opera is sustainable and therefore proving its creator ability to achieve syntheses in diversified fields as: philosophy, geography, ethnography, history and literature. He was also correspondent member of Romanian Academy since 1908 and title member since 1915. Simion Mehedinţi following the instalment of communism was marginalized much time. But the savant still works until he died and left to his predecessors an impressive knowledge and a significant example to follow. This modest article intends to be a tribute to Simion Mehedinţi – human, professor, savant, and patriot.
