Summary/Abstract: There is no deficit of writings on the post-communist transition in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. In fact, there is more being written about the region now than before when it was still under communist rule. This is in part because those who have traditionally studied this part of the world have been joined by scores of scholars who are completely new to the field. With this influx of newcomers has come an extension of the comparative framework, as is evidenced by frequent references to Latin America, particularly in the context of stabilization programs.
