Summary/Abstract: The spiritual touches and the cult of Jerusalem have existed in Serbian literature for eight centuries: from Saint Sava who visited Jerusalem twice. Jerotej Račanin (second half of the 17th c. – after 1727) arrived in Jerusalem in 1705, but he described the journey to the Holy Land in a travelogue Putšastvije k gradu Jerusalimu Jeroteja jeromonaha Račaninskago in 1727. He made a great effort to write the “first literary travelogue” in the Serbian literature: he chronicled precisely, almost daily, about lodging, events and occurrences that impressed him most on his journey for almost a year. As a monk who took part in services in the temples of the Holy City, he described the life in them to a great detail, and he also wrote about making choices and ways of reading prayers. Travel culture has confirmed itself in the literature by specific ways of structuring experiences. The gift of travelling to Jerusalem influenced the creation of a special literary field in the Serbian literature, the emergence of new motifs and its thematic enrichment. Gavril Stefanović Venclović (late 17th c. – after 1746) did not physically travel to Jerusalem, but was spiritually located there, he mentally mapped and described legends about the unique city.
