Author(s): Vili Radman
Subject(s): Christian Theology and Religion
Published by: Franjevačka teologija Sarajevo

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to highlight the epistemological importance of religious experience for the right understanding and development of theological thinking. It points out that a meaningful talk about God (theology) starts from the experience of God’s salvifi c presence in human life (religious experience). In the fi rst part it gives a critical account of the contemporary preoccupation with the importance of language for human understanding pointing out thereby its shortcomings and emphasizing the need for the better appreciation of the role of a wider life-context and the way it provides the semantic framework for our language-using activity. In the second and third part it refl ects on the way the epistemological importance of religious experience for theological thinking has been reassessed in the work of some contemporary theologians
