Summary/Abstract: In the article the author discusses the problem of negative phonetic interference appearing during the mastering of the intonation of the Russian language at the university Russian studies. On the basis of the author’s own observations as well as on the basis of results of researches and experiments of physiologists and psychologists presented and concerning the exact imitiation, by various people, of pitch, sonority and duration of the sounds of native tongue, the assumption was put forward, that individual abilities of audio-mne­monic type in particular students can be very helpful in the overcoming of the barrier of interference on the plane of intonation during the mastering of Russian pronunciation.
