The Issue of Emancipation in the Writings of Spiritual Leaders of Romanian Jewry during the Second Half of the Nineteenth Century

Summary/Abstract: The struggle for emancipation and self-emancipation was a key concern for Jewish spiritual leaders in Romania. Special texts had been written to counter the allegations against Jews by the opponents of their emancipation, and they also provided arguments to prove the connection between their emancipation and the overall progress of society.
