A Poem on St. Genoveva by Antun Josip Knezović

Summary/Abstract: This paper focuses on the interpretation of the hagiographic poem Život svete Genuveve (The Life of St. Genoveva, Pest 1761), written by the Slavonian writer Antun Josip Knezović. The author investigates the viewpoints the work stems from, actorial level, composition, narrative point and modes of narrator’s involvement in the narrative world, narrative techniques and the level of style. The analysis shows that Knezović’s poem is traditional both regarding its theme and its formal features, and that it largly relies on the poetic principles of the Middle Ages origin.
