Summary/Abstract: In the mid-17th century, when Patriarch of Moscow Nikon was introducing his famous reforms, Epifaniy Slavinetskiy translated five writings of Athanasius (of which two were genuine and three pseudographic) and had them printed at the Moscow Print Yard. Compared to Epifaniy’s life and work that have been sufficiently studied, his translations of Athanasius have never been subjected to a detailed analysis. Thus, the aim of this study is to examine these translations in order to understand what sources he used, which methods he applied as he worked with the original Greek texts and previous translations, as well as to explore the cultural and historical conditions that allowed such translations to appear.
