Functioning and development of Komunalny Zakład Komunikacyjny in Białystok

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the functioning and directions of development of a public transport enterprise based on the example of Komunalny Zakład Komunikacyjny LLC (KZK). Sources of materials were analysis of available literature in the field of public transport, company documentation, interview with the company’s president, participant observation. The research period concerned the years 2014–2015. The descriptive, tabular, graphical and SWOT analysis methods were used to analyze and present the results of the work. It was found that the company used its resources rather heavily. Nevertheless, it did not have a dominant position in the market, it had the smallest share in terms of carriages. Investment is a chance for KZK development. The most important is the construction of a new depot, which will allow to increase the scale of operations. Another investment activity was related to the purchase of new buses. All investments concerned therefore the basic resources of the enterprise. Investment activities will also contribute to better perception of urban transport by its users.
