Summary/Abstract: The work of Joseph Conrad has become a part of the Polish literary canon and takes suchan important place in it that it is not difficult to forget his novels were translated into Polish.It is precisely the translations and their interpretations that have informed the reception ofConrad’s modernist writing in Poland. The translators, critics and commentators have placedhis novels and stories in various historical, social and political contexts which resulted invarious resonances and in including his work into particular ideological discourses.
