Summary/Abstract: This study focuses on the transformation of film criticism with technological and digital developments. Audiovisual essay has emerged as a new critical form in film studies with access to digital film editing programs made easier and widespread. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the place of audiovisual essays in film studies as a method of digital film criticism. It is possible to consider audiovisual essays as an alternative to traditional text-based film criticism in film studies. In this context; some important features that explain the audiovisual essays are put forward and both the limits of the audiovisual essays are considered. The audiovisual essays discussed in this study are tried to be explained through key questions and concepts. Along with these concepts and questions, the contribution of audiovisual essays to the convergency between theory and practice in the field of film studies is seen clearly. In this aspect, audiovisual essay is not to think about the visual and auditory, but to think through the visual and audio. The study is also important in that audiovisual essays reveal the transformation potential of traditional text-based academic film critics. As a result, it is possible to see audiovisual criticism and textual criticism as two different methods that feed each other.
