On the Comet of Johannes Immanuel Volkelt’s “Systemic” Thought and Its Importance for Ingarden’s Philosophy of Art

Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the issue which literary scholars are – to a large extent – well acquaintedwith, namely the influence of Johannes Immanuel Volkelt’s considerations presented in hiswork System der Ästhetik on Roman Witold Ingarden’s philosophy of art. By referring to someselected extracts of the first volume, entitled Grundlegung der Ästhetik, the author tries toprove the importance of the German philosopher’s thought, especially for Ingarden’s conceptof appearance. A common belief in the hegemony of Husserlian inspiration in this area isquestioned, being further supported by the fact that reference to Husserl’s views evolved inIngarden’s philosophy.
