Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the censorship practices that affected André Frossard’s work 'Les 36 preuves de l’existence du Diable' ('36 Proofs of the Existence of the Devil'), first published in Poland in 1987. Starting with an analysis of the censored fragments of the text, the study attempts to demonstrate the affinity between the storyteller – the devil in Frossard’s work – and the mechanism of censorship. In order to justify the demonic nature of these censorship efforts, the author of the study has adopted the theological thesis of the actual existence of the “prince of darkness.” This approach makes it possible for the reader to see the full extent of the demonic character of the censorship interventions that altered the devil’s letters in Frossard’s work – it’s source being the rhetoric of hatred, characteristic of the field of literary axiology.
