Summary/Abstract: In this article, we focused on the analysis of beneficiaries of start-up incentives interventions in Hungary, which are designed for unemployed individuals to start a business in the form of self-employment. The support is provided in the form of a lump-sum payment and the treated participant is then obliged to maintain self-employment during the stipulated mandatory period. As a success of an instrument is considered to the fact that the pursuit of self-employment continues beyond this mandatory sustainability period. Using the tools of qualitative data analysis, we investigated the dependence between the characteristics of treated individuals and their success of the implemented intervention. In the analysis, we found that the sex of the beneficiaries, age category, and disadvantages significantly affect their success and vice versa, the level of education does not have a significant impact on whether individuals remain in the labor market as self-employed in the long term.
