Summary/Abstract: General information about Hüznî of Ereğli in the Black Sea can be found in various references and studies. Upon the literature review, we determined an article titled Ereğli Şairleri (Poets of Ereğli) that was written by Sadi Yaver Ataman, a folklorist, and published in issue 73 of Halk Bilgisi Haberleri Dergisi (The Journal of Folkloric News) in 1937. In this article, Sadi Yaver Ataman provided information about Hüznî by listening to those who personally knew the poet. Hüznî was born in Ereğli in the Black Sea in 1859/60 (1276 AH). He worked as a registrar in Ereğli and Akçakoca and died in Ereğli in 1926. Much like his pseudonym, Hüznî was a poet who was melancholy most of the time and lived in his own world. Additionally, he was a person who was pleasant to talk to and had never offended anybody. His one and only literary work was Dîvân, which was published in Istanbul in 1894 (1312 AH). New information about Hüznî’s life and selected example poems from Dîvân were present in this study.
