Summary/Abstract: The Ostrava region was typified by its rapid growth in the period of industrialization from the latter part of the 19th Century until the era of socialism. This study deals with the formation of households and family patterns in the industrial revolution up to the World War I, in a period when this region was a destination for many immigrants from various parts of the Austrian Empire and abroad. The issues are shown in the cases of specific groups of residents, especially in terms of the differences between inhabitants in the centre of Moravian Ostrava and in the workers’ settlements or the differences between specific religious groups (Christians and Jews).
