The Beginnings of František Hrubý’s historical work during his studies in Olomouc

Summary/Abstract: The article informs about the beginnings of František Hrubý’s historical work during his studies at the Slavic Secondary School (Slovanské gymnázium) and in the theological seminary in Olomouc. Hrubý later became professor at Masaryk University and head of the Provincial Archive (Zemský archiv) in Brno. The article stresses the influence of family background that stimulated his interest in history, and particularly the significant pedagogical and professional influence of his high school professor, Vincenc Prasek. It was in Prasek’s Selský archiv that the young student published all his contributions between 1904 and 1909. The study is based particularly on the analysis of the letters exchanged by the two personalities.
