A few remarks on the genealogy of the national landscape on the example of Jerzy Smoleński Landscape of Poland and Polish Land in poetry edited by Jan Lorentowicz

Summary/Abstract: The article concerns reflection on the landscape at the beginning of the 20th century in Polish geog-raphy and literature. It focuses on mechanisms, tools and goals of discursive production of the national land-scape. The subject of the analysis is Jerzy Smoleński’s Landscape of Poland and the anthology Polish land in the poetry edited by Jan Lorentowicz. The analyzed phenomena point to specific rules of landscape view in literature, using polonization, selection, idealization and archaization. They also prove that the landscape in both geographical and literary discourses played an important role in shaping national identity.
