Summary/Abstract: Contemporary journalism is one of the plains of wide use of biblical idioms. Journalistic texts are filled with a large amount of expressive means, which can include phraseological expressions. A distinctive means of expression, functioning in the headlines of contemporary Russian media messages, are idioms of biblical origin. A kind of introduction to the printed media statement is a headline, which should indicate its theme and attract the attention of potential audiences with its content. In order to achieve these goals, we use, among others, linguistic games, transformation, author’s irony, intertextuality, to which biblical idioms are subjected. Thanks to that, they can perform various functions: nominative, informative and expressive in the structure of headlines.
