Summary/Abstract: The family business as business structure is the dominant figure in the world because it generates wealth. Given the need to grow, compete and build adopts complex forms of corporate organization. In Mexico increased their economic power, it is little studied through the growth of its assets. The objective was to determine the importance of large family businesses or family economic groups exemplifying the economy and determining the economic power of Cemex, Lamosa, Vitro, Gruma, Xignux Villacero and Alfa. The methods were used: historical-critical and analytical with a dynamic and comparative approach [Concheiro, Fragoso and Gutiérrez 1979] as well as the approach of corporate and organizational strategies [Cordero, Santín and Tirado 1983]. The results and conclusions show us the increased economic power or wealth of enterprises is reflected in assets that differ in several periods where his growth as groups, consolidation and expansion is observed and its restructuring before the crisis of 1982. These large companies remain under family ownership and structure within economic groups where property relations, control, financing and resource allocation are organized and is a typical fact of late-capitalist economies.
