Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the role managers play and their significance in intercultural management. Nowadays intercultural management poses a serious challenge to managers; the challenge is connected with being aware of the benefits and problems ingrained inthe functioning of multicultural teams and with using employees’ potential in order to gaina competitive advantage in the global market. The aim of the article is to present responsibilities shouldered by managers working in multicultural environments in the context of human resource management and to describe competences allowing them to successfully manage multicultural teams. Following the ideas from subject literature, the authors emphasise that the responsibilities intercultural managers face are of a diverse nature and of great importance and that their competences significantly affect the functioning of teams and organizations. The first part of the article explains the concept of intercultural management and presents models of it, which is followed by the analysis of strong and weak points of multicultural teams. The second part of the article is devoted to the analysis of managers’ personality features and skills from the perspective of intercultural management, while the final part describes multiculturalism as a challenge faced by intercultural managers in various areas of human resource management.
