Summary/Abstract: The labor market today forces certain behaviors, attitudes (showing, for example,professional flexibility), which are important for the course of a professional career. That is why shaping competences that increase the competitiveness of labor resources is so important. What is important in this case is not only the tendency to participate in educational processes, but also to take up self-education at various periods of professional life andto work on your competences. Knowledge can and should be explored at every stage of professional life, because it is the essence of competence and it directly affects the shape of a professional career. The presented study is an attempt to theoretical analysis of the relationship between employees’ competencies and professional career. It can be a contribution to broader empirical research as well as discussion. Its main purpose is to present concepts based on the literature of the subject. A research hypothesis has been put forward, which is to confirm the existence of the above mentioned dependence.
