Summary/Abstract: The article explores the causes and the scale of the phenomenon of eventisation of culture in tourism destination management. It reviews relevant literature and concepts that include cultural and technological changes that are responsible for the situation in which the tourist is both an observer and being observed, and events provide a useful situational context for the access to culture and for visitor engagement. The article concludes that the accelerating pace of modern life as well as its commercialisation, the proliferation of ICTs, and the blurring boundaries between leisure time and work time, as well as the growing experience economy mean that eventisation of culture seems poised to become an established trend in tourism.
