Summary/Abstract: The article focusses on selected aspects of the custom of drinking coffee at work. It argues that regular, moderate coffee usage has the potential to boost personal creativity and productivity, and the social aspects of drinking coffee at work can strengthen the team spirit and incentivise cooperation, as well as add a degree of informal hospitality to thehost-client relationship. Based on a multi disciplinary review of literature, personal observation as well as a series of questionnaires, authors note an increasing awareness of the global diversity of coffee-related traditions and customs. However, it is also observed that the multiplicity of coffee making and drinking methods is rarely reflected in the office environment, dominated by standardised coffee styles, despite the growing availability of suitable alternatives and the increasingly culturally diverse workforce.
