Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study was a quantitative and qualitative evaluation of tools and methods applied to analyse the effectiveness of implementing tourist development strategies in Poland with respect to selected types of strategic documents. Secondary resources analysis (desk research) served to describe and analyse the discussed issues, and comparative analysis — to draw conclusions. The authors identified the tools indicated in the strategic documents (both effective by 2014 and currently under development or implemented for years 2020–2025) as applied in assessing the tourism potential of a region, strategy implementation status, and performance. Significant differences were observed in the quality, detail, and relevance of the documents. A cautious statement was formulated concerning symptoms of positive changes thanks to applying new tools and methods. This refers both to assessing the tourism potential and to the future evaluation of implementing the objectives, priorities, and tasks. Analysing different strategic documents allowed to observe anincrease in their quality and consistency with higher level strategies. Good practices were indicated, especially in the context of the EU financial perspective by 2020.
