Patent Activity in Family Firms: Selected Research Issues and the Literature Review

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to identify the main directions of research in the field of patent activity in family firms. The literature review shows that most of the previous studies consider patent data only as an indicator of innovation activity and refer mainly to larger, publicly listed companies. The author suggests to conduct further research on patent propensity and patent management in family firms. These research should to a greater extent than before use qualitative methods, and also include small and medium-sized enterprises.
