Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The aim of the paper is to identify the key challenges in the area of research on theimpact of innovation on firm performance.Design/methodology/approach – The work is theoretical in nature. The considerations contained in the articlewere based on the review of domestic and foreign literature and the authors’ own reflections.Findings – The relationship between innovation activity and firm performance is complex. Therefore, it isnecessary to use more and more advanced research methods and carefully selected indicators.Originality/value – The article presents a number of guidelines and recommendations which may contributeto improving the quality of research in this area.
