Summary/Abstract: Family businesses are the foundation of the market economy. It is estimated that family businesses constitute over half of the sector of small and medium-sized enterprises in Poland. Due to their complexity and specificity, they have to face other management problems than non-family businesses, in particular in strategic management. The strategy of such companies is determined not only by economic factors, but also factors resulting from family property and relations. The aim of this paper is to identify selected problems connected with developing and implementing a strategy in a family business. The paper contains two integral parts. The fist deals with theoretical aspects of the specificity of strategic planning in the context of family businesses. The second presents analysis of results of studies as part of the issues discussed.
