Summary/Abstract: The main aim of the presented pilot study is to look at the specifics of remuneration in small family businesses by identifying their structure of wages in this type of business. Secondary aims were as follow: to learnthe opinion of staff on the satisfaction of the salary received, as well as to compare the consistency of remuneration practices in family enterprises with current market trends. The research methods applied were as follows: interviews with family business owners and survey based on the structured questionnaire. Analyzing the results of the pilot study it is worth to mention that remuneration in family enterprises is a major challenge, especially for people who have almost “by accident” become entrepreneurs. Often the potential of the company and its workers is not fully utilized, and the owners somehow learn to manage their business “in real time”. Thus, there is observed the lack of clear procedures (including the flow of information, the rules for granting rewards and punishments / bonuses for achieving the objectives), and innovative solutions in the field of remuneration management. The research results should not be generalized to the entire population of small family businesses. Further in-depth studies on a larger sample are needed.
