Pre-translation Analysis of Text (On the Example of a Poem by Osip Mandelstam)

Summary/Abstract: The paper considers the question of pre-translation analysis of text as the first phase of the translation process. In this context, the paper analyses one of the poems by Osip Mandelstam (Let me go, give me up, Voronezh...). The paper presents an attempt to translate the text in accordance with the identified translation dominants, and taking into account the characteristics of the text and the other works of the poet, as well as specific translation problems. The author indicates three questions which the translator must give an answer to: ‘what’, ‘how’, and ‘why’.
