Summary/Abstract: On 25 June 2008, it was exactly 10 years ago, that the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters1 (hereinafter the Convention) had been adopted by representatives of 35 States and the European Community at an UN ECE-sponsored pan-European Ministerial Conference2 in the Danish city of Aarhus.3 The Convention entered into force on 30 October 2001 and the progress of ratification is still relatively rapid.
