Summary/Abstract: The aim of our study is to analyse the historical meaning of the space, in some of Sadoveanú́́́s short stories. We will focus our attention upon the short stories collections Împărăția apelor(The kingdom of the waters) and Vechime (Old Times). The characters way of life, their customs, traditions and behavior, all of these are revealing the ancestral, historical aspect of the space. The space imposes its own unwritten old lawsby initiating the characters or the writer himself. Also, the nature, with all its fluctuations and the circuit of all the elements of nature are regarded as rituals of the historical, primordial spaces. The village, the mountain, the citadel, even the aquatic environment are revealing the ancestral aspect of the space, in Sadoveanús short stories. The theoretical part of the article will be based on ideas found in the specialized texts of Ernest Bernea and Ivan Evseev.
