Summary/Abstract: This study discusses the problem on compensatory spaces in two of Sadoveanu’s short stories collections (Vechime and Împărăția apelor). Compensatory spaces can be found in the heart of the nature, but only ig the human being is able to understand which are the meanings of this chaste universe. Enjoying fishing and hunting, Sadoveanu himself spent a lot of time in the heart of the nature, understanding the purpose of symbolic spaces such as islet, pond, lake or river, mountains or forests. Sadoveanu took over these symbolyc spaces, becoming an initiate. The process of initiation in the compensatory spaces involved several steps. These three steps are highlighted in this study.
