Summary/Abstract: This study aims at presenting the evolution of the separation of powers principle, in general, and of the executive power, in particular, at identifying the responsabilities of the executive and at specifying the government’s role in the current European context. The principle of separation of powers is a fundamental principle within the rule-of-law state, being the guarantor of the genuine, traditional democracy.
