Summary/Abstract: In over 30 years of military career, General Alexandru Ioaniţiu was among the thinkers, organizers and senior elite of the Romanian Armed Forces. He was also noted as a military thinker, bringing, through his work – a considerable contribution to the development of military science. His work includes studies of history and military theory, strategy and tactics. Through them, he advanced a series of valuable ideas and conclusions about the necessity ofdeveloping a national military doctrine and adapting the military to progress, to the physiognomy of future war and to the role of the morale factor in winning. He was Chief of the General Staff between September 6, 1940 – June 21, 1940, and of the General Headquarters from June 22 to September 17, 1941. This article aims to highlightsome personal and professional aspects, as well as aspects regarding the contribution made by General Alexandru Ioaniţiu to the consolidation of military science.
