Summary/Abstract: Dimitrian Laurenţiu Viorel BRANA was born on November 8, 1907, in the commune of Vaca (Crișan) – Hunedoara. He was the only child of Atanase and Maria Brana (Philip). He attended the primary school in his native village and in Brad and the High School in Brad, then the “Avram Iancu” college. He obtained a Baccalaureate at Deva and enrolled at the Faculty of Sciences – the Natural Section in Bucharest, graduating in 1933. After practicing in the Trascău Mountains, with geologist Mircea Ilie, he was employed as a geologist at Brad, at the Geological Bureau of the MICA Society. In 1940, he became a member of the Board of Directors of this Society. Returning from the front, he worked at the Geological Exploration Trade Association, then at the French Gold Mine Company from Transylvania. A very good specialist in exploration and exploitation of metallic and non-metallic deposits, V. Brana was employed by the State Enterprise for Mining Exploitation (ISEM), where he had the most important activity throughout his geological career. In the same period, he was a professor at the Higher School of Geology. He worked in many important institutions, sometimes in high-profile positions, which he honored with perfect honesty and professionalism. Among the countless achievements, the scientist Brana has made special contributions to the research of the golden alluviums in the Nera Basin, the Bozovici and Naidas areas, essential for completing the exploration and appreciating the golden potential of Banat. He published nine volumes and numerous specialized articles. His documentation will always be an example of concision in expression and substantialinformation. The scientist Brana has constantly sought to complete his research with the most important economic results for the country. He passed away, with a clear mind, at the venerable age of 90 years.
