On the peculiarities of the realization of the modal meaning of ability in „Teutonic Knights" by H. Sienkiewicz (on interlinguistic lexical equivalence)

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to detailed aspects concerning interlinguistic lexical equivalents repre­ senting the modal meaning of ability in the language of H. Sienkiewicz‘s novel entitled Teutonic Knights and its translation into Russian. Determined are the modifiers of ability, their structural hierarchy (central and peripheral linguistic means) within the boundaries of the appropriate modal microfields in Polish and Russian. Conducted is the analysis of the functional-semantic role of the modal explicators due to their stylistic markedness and the level of adequacy realized by them, concerning particular meanings of ability in the original text and its translation into Russian.
