Summary/Abstract: The toponyms deriving from Lith. gãlas ‘end, edge’ constitute a very large etymological group and demonstrate varied formation patterns as well as a special diversity of compound and composite formations. The article addresses their derivational patterns with a focus on the productivity of formation types, the morphological status of base words, and the meaning of formation. By referring to the traditional description of grammatical/syntactical relations, the article discusses the grammatical relations of compound toponyms and the prepositional constructions used as toponyms as well as the syntactical relations of the components of the composite toponyms comprising word-phrases.
