Summary/Abstract: The site “Vardarski Rid” near Gevgelija is a space that has been intensively inhabited for about a thousand years, throughout the first millennium before Christ. With this, he is one of the most important sites for the knowledge of prehistory and early antiquity in the Lower Vardar Valley. The ancient settlement of the site represents a historic ancient Macedonian town, due to the possibility, according to the material findings discovered at Vardarski Rid, to connect this settlement with certain writ¬ten historical data, specifically with the famous records of Thucydides in connection with the campaign of the Thracian military leader Sitalces in Macedonia and the attacks on the cities in Povardarie or ancient Amphaxitis (Idomenae, Gordynia, Europos and Atalanta). The excellence of the last research campaign at Vardarski Rid is the discovery of a Mahair-type sword. The sword was found in sector XIV, or etc. sector of the necropolis, where the excavations have uncovered a total of 43 burial structures from the late Bronze Age (XIII–XI century BC).
