Summary/Abstract: Vardar Hill site near Gevgelija is a space that intensely lived over a thousand years, throughout the first millennium before Christ. With that, it is one of the most important sites for the knowledge of the protohistory and early antiquity in the Lower Vardar valley.Ancient settlement at the site presents historical ancient Macedonian city because of the possibility to connect this settlement with certain writ¬ten historical data, particularly with known records in Thucydides about the campaign of the Thracian king Sitalk in Macedonia and the attacks on cities in Vardar valley or ancient Amphaxitis (Idomenae, Gortynia, Europos and Atalante).This paper will focus on material findings discovered the Vardar Hill, a stone plaque with an inscription and the word “. . RTYNIA” on it and a ceramic seal with the inscription “ΓΟΡΔΥΝΙΑ“ as material contributions for identification and location of the ancient Macedonian city Gortynia.
