Summary/Abstract: This paper presents historical and theoretical arguments against those who speak about the Yugoslav society of the end of the 1990s simply because such a thing does not exist and is not likely to appear in the near future. The author presents cultural, historical, legal and political arguments which justify his thesis that it is more appropriate to define the society of the present-day Yugoslavia as Serbian society, while the commonwealth of Serbia and Montenegro should be labeled as Serbian federation. The author believes that without a unified Serbian state in the Balkans, established on the institutions of democratic, civil society, it is not possible to have a lasting peace and stability in the region and in Europe.
