Summary/Abstract: This paper is a critical essay on the continuity of ideological and political schisms in the intellectual community of Serbia's sociologists and intellectuals in general, and Mirko Kosic, one of the establishers of Serbian sociology and one of sociologists from Serbia who had enjoyed highest international reputation, is the most recent victim of the above-mentioned schisms. The author provides arguments for claim that sociologists who easily label, ideologically brand and dismiss public figures, social events and phenomena do little credit to sociology as science. Sociological review of social roles of prominent public figures should encompass and be based primarily on serious analysis of structure of social power, as well as configuration of the conflicting group and individual interests, values and normative frameworks they stand for and represent. The author concludes that continuity of all old and new political schisms in Serbia is primarily a consequence of continuous and too powerful external pressures to which internal forces of cohesion in Serbia are unable to resist, and they react to the above-mentioned pressures in an auto destructive manner.
