Summary/Abstract: The aggregate objective function (AOF) is one of the methods applied in the discrete and continuous version of the multiobjective optimization. In the first case the procedure is used to prepare ratings. In the other one it finds application in the setting of a compromise solution or in the Pareto front searching. The AOF comes very offen in useful in practical discrete problems and gives then quite reasonable results. Nevertheless in the continuous version the application of the AOF as a compromise solution searching tool may lead to controversial answers. The author illustrates by means of numerical examples the shortcomings of the method and presents a new approach which allows to solve any multicriteria problem and to obtain more logical answers.
