Summary/Abstract: Many scholars think that our picture of Socrates’ life and philosophy depends on the Delphic pronouncement from Plato’s Apology. The aim of this article is to investigate the historicity of the Delphic oracle story. The author argues that the story is Plato’s invention and that Plato makes it abundantly clear that the story is not depicting an historical event.
