Summary/Abstract: The focus of this study is the development of the Department of Journalism at the Faculty of Arts at Comenius University in Bratislava. It presents the circumstances of its establishment in 1952, the gradual changes that have been taking place depending on social and political changes, up to the present state. The study reflects the development of journalism studies in Slovakia, as the department represents the oldest university department devoted to journalism education. It describes not only the structure of the teaching staff from its beginnings to the present, but also the transformations that occurred within the study programs or the organization and division of the department as a university workplace.
