Summary/Abstract: One of the ways to achieve better understanding among nations in the era of globalisation is through the mass media. This requires, besides other things, professional journalists and journalism, which should reflect not only the national specifics, but the best experience of the mass media world as well. A good way to accomplish this, for instance, is learning about each other´s professional skills and knowledge. The aim of the article is to highlight the importance of news reporting and writing in journalism in general, and analyse the various journalistic professions related to the news reporting not only from Slovak, but also from the Anglo-American theory and practice.
