Using of EU funds and their impact on the competitiveness of enterprises of the SME sector

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses possibilities of obtaining EU funds by enterprises from the SME sector. The research section presents the results of research on the acquisition of EU funds by 200 enterprises from the SME sector in the Podlaskie voivodship. The aim of the study was to get acquainted with the opinions of owners and managers about the opportunities, barriers and opportunities for obtaining EU funds during the programme period 2014–2020 . Research results show that business executives perceive the opportunities offered by EU funds, but a small percentage of them use it. The main obstacles to obtaining EU funds are the financial barriers associated with the need to contribute own and administrative resources related to the procedures for applying and clearing EU funds. Companies that have benefited from grants in the opinion of owners and managers have increased their market competitiveness.
