Summary/Abstract: This article deals with the number of inhabitants of the municipalities in what used to be the Vidin District, whereby special attention has been given to those who claimed to be „Wallachians" during the 1992 census. Their number -122, is too small and that resulted in their inclusion in the group of „others", listed in which have been all who were not counted to be Bulgarians, Turks or Gypsies. I have separated those who have said to be Wallachians from this group and present them apart. I have likewise made a comparison of the number of the inhabitants of villages with population speaking Wallachian in 1975 and in 1985. My main focus has been on the alarming fact that the villages in the region of Vidin are becoming depopulated. The small number of children, the existence of a great number of people above the active age are features characterizing not only the villages in which „Wallachian" is the vernacular, but the whole region, too. These statistics have been analyzed and illustrated in four tables.
