Summary/Abstract: The article is a summary of the most popular concepts of populism – presented both from the historical and contemporary perspective. The author pays attention to controversies of the mere concept of populism, which are still present in modern social sciences. A starting point of the analysis are XIX century agrarian populism and types of populism. The example of both the variety of the mere phenomenon and diversity of theoretical perspectives engaged by the scientists to clarify the concept are social changes in Latin America in the 80s and 90s.
