Summary/Abstract: The author studies the problem of the definition of the joke’s cultural identity. His reasoning is based on the presumption that the joke is a modern times product, that should mean a town’s culture product. The key idea of the analysis is that man is the central figure in every type of culture, i.e. in folklore culture too. The author makes an attempt to explain the nature of joke as a type of townsmen behaviour and creativity, which differs from the cultural subjectivity of paternal village’s culture. The joke characters and some of their features previously studied by science, are analysed with regards to their integrity, aggressiveness, to the predomination of the verbal over the actional components and so on, further more, the joke is examined as a specific form of communication.
